Tired of reading boring and consistent news stories of the same issues? Try investing your attention to development stories and earn more than just money.
Every story is unique from one another. This principle
applies in distinguishing development-oriented news articles from straight
news. What we believe to be development stories might not be. Story of
development is something that requires full analysis and knowledge on the
issues besetting the society. A development news story is something that tells
us significant and relevant changes or improvements in the fields where most
people are engaged in. Most likely, people tend to associate a development
story as something that informs farmers of new breeds of crops which can resist
any kind of pest infestation and may grow at any kind of environment, something
that features the heroism of not just a single nor prominent individual, but a
success of an organization in their efforts of uplifting the lives of
underserved populace, something that influences people to arrive at their best
possible solutions to their pervasive problems using their potentials, and most
of all, a development news is a story of survival and growth, change and
reforms, and mass involvement and social improvement- where the common people
are the real characters, occupying the spotlight of reality and time. However, there’s always been villains of
development, trying to mess it up.
The fact that development stories
separates them from the ordinary and usual type of news corresponds to the fact
that most of us find it hard to distinguish and categorize them. The reason
behind- we are in a society of critics and news seemed to be a hate-it-or-love-it
stuff. An infected as well as a very
sensitive society, indeed.
Most
newspapers seldom feature relevant news of changes and improvements in various
aspects. I honestly think of the possibility that they limit development news
simply because people are not that open and interested in these trends. They
are more likely to read political and economic bits, which undeniably occupy
most of the pages, and advertisements for job opportunities and entertainment. So, it would be better to prioritize their
sales, I guess. Or just to represent the people’s side, perhaps.
Back in the laboratory which went
messy after the activity, I find it quite easy to compile development oriented
news articles and hey, I am a DevCom student so I must know them. Besides that
I had a Philippine Star issue for that day while most of my lab mates had
Inquirer as their source. Most of the news are about politics and security
concerns, a bit of development-oriented stories-almost the same as that in the
entertainment section, and tons of classified ads and advertisement. Business as usual, huh?
Newspapers, no matter what, are still
portals of information and discoveries. Most news are not of development
concern but the good thing is that writers make stories, whatever it is about,
to make people sympathize and react. Reactions on the stories, most of which
calls for reforms and changes, are the mere foundations of development. Every
news can be a development story when people try to discover what it really
wants to share. Every news is a call for a change and every development story
is a success of a news that once been published and gained attention and action
from the people. Now that’s what it takes
to make and search for development news- understanding and appreciation.
